Thanks Steve!
"Stay hungry, stay foolish and do what you love." - Steve Jobs 1955 - 2011.
Steve Jobs was my personal Peter Pan. What I will remember most about him was his boyish charm during his keynotes every year. He seemed genuinely excited about what he was showing us. He was like the kid in grade three who brought his pet frog to show and tell, hiding in a shoebox (with holes cut in it!) He wasn't afraid to lead the Lost Boys (the geeks), and he seemed to have some magic nearby (reality distortion field).
Steve made geekdom cool. He was an excellent storyteller who always had "one more thing..." to add and we were thrilled when he did. His leadership and vision is one that inspires me to do crazy things and seek out the best in the people around me.
I never knew him personally, few of us did, but the persona he created was compelling. Sure we heard stories about the "real" Steve Jobs. I was happy to admire and appreciate this Peter Pan who would never grow old and never die. If that was a fiction, that's fine with me. My hope is that the truth is somewhere in between. We need heroes, always we need heroes.
Now I am sad, grateful, bitter (at cancer), humbled, and contemplative. I will always remember Steve Jobs and the power of his compelling "reality distortion field." I am so lucky to be alive in a time where Apple and Pixar flourish with the spirit of Steve Jobs. Now Steve is as immortal as Peter Pan.
